Year-End Status Data

At the end of each year, a year-end status record is created to correspond with each bill abstracted in the General Legislation database that becomes effective during that year. Subsequent year-end statuses are developed—one per year—whenever the original bill’s status changes due to amendment or repeal. Each year-end status reflects this “stream” of codified legislation.

Each year-end status record contains an abstract of the relevant portion(s) of a state law, using as its source the codified version of a state’s law. A year-end status record includes a citation(s) to the appropriate section(s) of the state code. It provides a "snapshot" of the law as of December 31st of the year of interest. Some records contain in the Notes field additional clarifying information not included in the law itself.

Year-end status records are created only for enacted laws previously captured in the General Legislation database. Year-end statuses are not developed for other types of measures unless they are codified.
