Addendum

In the April 1997 issue of SCLD Updates, the summary of Arkansas S.B. 320 reported an increase in the excise tax on tobacco products other than cigarettes. The law also contained provisions increasing the excise tax on a pack of cigarettes from 31.5 to 34 cents per pack. However, neither of these tax increases is currently in effect because the law stipulated that the additional taxes must not be collected in any fiscal year in which the Arkansas General Assembly appropriates a designated amount of money to the Breast Cancer Research Fund and the Breast Cancer Control Fund. Sufficient funds were appropriated for fiscal years 1997-1998 and 1998- 1999.
